Why this programme matters
Food poverty is a growing reality for millions of people across the UK. Even in one of the world's wealthiest countries, too many families are being pushed into crisis by rising food prices, income insecurity and the broader cost of living. Official data shows food inflation rose by 3.7% in the year to March 2026, while unemployment stood at 4.9% in the latest period, adding pressure to households already struggling to make ends meet.
For many, the challenge is no longer about budgeting carefully, it is about not having enough to cover the basics at all. Parents are skipping meals so children can eat.
People living alone, older people, those in hospital, and families on low incomes are turning to emergency support because their income no longer stretches far enough to cover food alongside rent, energy and other essential costs.
The Amir Khan Foundation responds by working with schools, hospitals, food banks and community groups to reach people in urgent need. Through this programme, we provide food items and small grants to help relieve immediate pressure and ensure support reaches people quickly, locally and with dignity.
This is an ongoing programme designed to meet real needs in real communities. Our aim is to stand alongside those facing hardship, helping people access essential support when they need it most.

Have you seen the one who denies the Final Reckoning? That is the one who repulses the orphan and does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
Surah Al-Ma'un, 107:1-3
