Cookie Policy

What cookies we set, what they do, and how you can change your mind about them at any time.

Last updated: 15 May 2026

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. They allow a site to remember things about your visit, such as your preferences, whether you are signed in, and how you use the site. Similar technologies like local storage and pixel tags work in the same way and are covered by this policy too.

How we use cookies

We use cookies for three purposes: to make the site work, to understand how people use it so we can improve it, and (where you allow us) to measure the performance of campaigns that bring people to the site. We do not use cookies to track you across unrelated websites for advertising.

When you first visit the site you will see a cookie banner asking you to choose which categories of cookies you are happy for us to use. You can change your mind at any time by clicking “Manage cookies” in the footer of every page.

Cookie categories

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for the site to work and cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take, such as making a donation, logging in, or saving your cookie preferences.

We do not need consent to use strictly necessary cookies under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

  • Cookie consent state - stored locally to remember which cookie categories you have agreed to. Set by us. Expires after 12 months or when you clear it.
  • Stripe payment cookies - when you start a donation, our payment processor Stripe sets cookies to protect against fraud and to keep the payment session secure. Stripe describes these in its cookie settings page.

Analytics cookies (optional)

These cookies help us understand how people use the site so we can make it better. We see things like which pages are visited most, how visitors arrived, and whether donation pages are working well. The data is aggregated; we do not use it to identify individuals.

We rely on your consent to set these cookies. They will not load until you accept analytics in the banner, and they will stop loading immediately if you withdraw consent.

  • Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics - sets cookies including _ga, _ga_* and session identifiers to measure visitor numbers, page views and donation conversion. Cookies expire between 1 day and 24 months. Google's practices are described in the Google cookie technologies page.

Marketing cookies (optional)

These cookies measure the performance of paid advertising that brings people to the site and help us reach donors who may want to hear from us again. We rely on your consent for these cookies. They will not load until you accept marketing in the banner.

  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel - measures when a website visit results in a donation following a Meta ad, and helps us reach similar audiences. Cookies include _fbp and similar identifiers, with expiry up to 90 days. Details are on the Meta cookies policy page.
  • Google Ads conversion tracking - measures when a Google Ads click results in a donation. Cookies expire within 90 days. Documented on the Google advertising policies page.

Some of the analytics and marketing cookies above are loaded through Google Tag Manager. If you decline analytics or marketing, Google Tag Manager will not load the relevant tracking until you change your mind.

How to manage your cookies

You can change your cookie preferences for this site at any time by clicking “Manage cookies” in the footer of every page.

You can also control cookies through your browser. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies for specific sites, or all sites. The Information Commissioner's Office maintains guidance for visitors on cookie controls covering all major browsers.

If you switch off all cookies, including the strictly necessary ones, parts of the site (such as the donation flow) may not work as expected.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the tools we use change. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where material changes affect the cookies you have agreed to, ask for your consent again.
