Accessibility Statement

We want everyone to be able to use this website. Here is how we measure our accessibility, where we know we fall short, and how you can tell us about a problem.

Last updated: 15 May 2026

Our commitment

The Amir Khan Foundation is committed to making this website accessible, in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium.

Accessibility is part of how we work, not an afterthought. We test against the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria as we build new features and review the site regularly to find issues and fix them.

What we have done to make the site accessible

  • Every page can be navigated using a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus indicator on interactive elements.
  • The site is structured with semantic HTML so screen readers can announce headings, lists, regions and links accurately.
  • Every image has descriptive alternative text so the meaning is still conveyed when images cannot be seen or fail to load.
  • A “Skip to main content” link appears at the top of every page for screen reader and keyboard users.
  • Page content adapts to different screen sizes, including mobile phones and tablets, and remains usable at 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling on key journeys.
  • Colour contrast meets WCAG 2.1 AA minimums for normal text against background colours throughout the site.
  • Forms have visible labels associated with their input fields, clear error messages, and do not rely on colour alone to communicate state.
  • The language of each page is declared so screen readers pronounce content correctly.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following limitations and are working to address them:

  • Some imagery on programme and appeal pages is decorative and uses descriptive alt text that may repeat across galleries; we are reviewing this to ensure each image is described in its own right where it adds context.
  • Older field-operation photographs in the Gallery may not always describe the people or settings shown in fine detail; we are updating these progressively.
  • Cookie consent is collected through a banner. We are reviewing the experience for screen reader users to ensure full keyboard and screen reader parity.

How we tested

This website is reviewed against WCAG 2.1 AA through a combination of automated tooling, manual testing with keyboard navigation and screen reader walkthroughs, and code review of accessibility patterns. The most recent comprehensive review was conducted in May 2026 ahead of the relaunch.
