Boxing, mentoring and safe spaces

The Champion Centre sport pillar is planned as a boxing gym with mentoring and a safe place for young people.

It is one part of a five-pillar community model. The first Champion Centre is planned for Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and is not currently open for donations.

What the sport pillar is

The planned boxing gym is a structured youth space, not an event venue. Boxing gives the sport pillar a practical activity around which coaching, routine and mentoring can be organised. Safe spaces give young people somewhere consistent to attend.

Mentoring is part of the same design. A gym session can create a regular point of contact, while mentors can help young people think about education, work and the decisions in front of them. The model is being developed before any delivery claim is made.

A safe space in this plan means a consistent, supervised setting for structured activity. It does not mean that sport is expected to solve every pressure affecting a young person. The boxing gym is designed to connect with the Centre's education, health and social-mobility work so another kind of support is available when it is relevant.

The Foundation's earlier AK Academy programme supported boxing, fitness and mentoring opportunities in Bolton, Peterborough and Islamabad. That programme is now part of AKF's history and is not open for donations. Its experience informs the sport pillar being planned for the Champion Centre.

One pillar within a connected model

Sport does not sit apart from the pressures a household faces. The Champion Centre brings five areas together so that a young person and their family can find more than one kind of support.

  1. 1Food security
  2. 2Health access
  3. 3Education
  4. 4Sport and youth development
  5. 5Social mobility

Why Rawalpindi comes first

The first centre is planned for Rawalpindi. The parent Champion Centre page explains that the city was selected for its density, access to existing infrastructure and clear community need. This first location is intended to test the wider model before it is developed further.

Programme design and planning are underway. AKF has not published an opening date, participant capacity or funds-raised figure. The Foundation will publish confirmed progress when the operating and funding route is ready.

The current next step for supporters is to follow the project. The parent page contains the confirmed five-pillar model and the latest development position.

Updates will separate confirmed decisions from ideas still being tested. That includes the operating model, the route to support the Centre and the practical role of the boxing gym. Until those points are confirmed, this page remains an explanation of the sport pillar rather than a fundraising page.
