Renowned contemporary artist San B has created a stunning one-off art piece, which showcases Amir Khan through the medium of precious crystals and stones.

The luxurious artwork is titled ‘Olympic Kin'g’ and symbolises Amir’s journey from young boxing hero to world champion and much-heralded ‘King of the Ring’. It was completed over 500 painstaking hours, in which San applied each heated stone by hand. As the largest piece he has ever produced, the finished work is made up of more than 40,000 Swarovski® crystals in various glittering shades.

The making of the portrait will feature in Amir’s new BBC3 reality show, Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton, which is due to hit screens in March 2021. During the series, viewers will watch as San outlines his vision for the piece, and then gradually brings it to life.

Amir joins an incredible line-up of high-profile celebrities and leaders from the world of music, sport and culture who have been immortalised in San’s work. These include Elvis Presley, Madonna, Prince, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Floyd Mayweather, Sachin Tendulkar, Muhammed Ali and Winston Churchill.

Speaking of the portrait, Amir said: “I have long been an admirer of San’s amazing portraits, and it’s the biggest honour imaginable to be the focus of his new work. He has managed to bring me to life and represent my story and boxing career in an incredible way.”

The Olympic King portrait will be auctioned as part of the Amir Khan Foundation’s upcoming ‘Lots for Life’ auction, with proceeds raised supporting low-income households and the homeless during the pandemic.
